Another popular belief is that all women can happily experience rapid, multiple orgasms. Many women can and do. But for some, "rapid" is every 30 seconds, where for others, it is every half-hour. "Multiple" means 2 or 3 for some, 8 or 10 for others. And for yet others, 1 is enough.
For both men and women, common factors affecting subsequent orgasms are how long it has been since the last orgasm, and its intensity. The longer it has been since the last one, the sooner they can go for another. The more intense the last orgasm, the less likely they will be able to achieve another one soon. Also, if a person is using some kind of erotic visual stimulation, or masturbating with friends, the more likely they can achieve a subsequent orgasm.]
A few years ago I could have orgasm after orgasm, but now I can usually have only one big one. Then I have to wait about 20 minutes before I can go again.
- age 15, California
If I haven't masturbated for a day or so, I can ejaculate once then use my own semen as a lube. In a few minutes, I'm hard again and ejaculate in about 10 minutes or go for as long as I like. I have practiced the start-and-stop technique for a couple of years and now I can come when I want. I don't rush it anymore. I usually masturbate start-and-stop for about an hour. When I decide to go all the way, *wow* – very intense the first time, great the second time.
- age 32, Massachusetts
It depends. Sometimes in only 5 minutes I simply *have* to go again. It depends on how much I have done it the previous day. There's not much point in trying to do it again if you're not horny, because then it takes so long!
- age 18, United Kingdom
I masturbate almost every day, but I have an orgasm only once every 2 or 3 days. This not only enhances my orgasm but also lets me enjoy the pleasure of masturbating for a longer period of time. This is due to the fact that I have a difficult time becoming aroused within 24 to 48 hours of my last orgasm. I cannot relate any situational information, but some weeks I am hornier than others.
- age 16, Minnesota
When I was in my teens, usually within 30 minutes. But now that I'm in my 50s, it can take an hour. However, it's quality not quantity that matters. One really powerful orgasm is much better than a second or third that's weaker and less satisfying. It's all about pacing yourself. I can still masturbate at least 3 times a day and, depending on how I feel, sometimes more if I don't rush it.
- age 58, United Kingdom
A good 4 hours does it for me, but the longer I wait, the better it feels – one after school and one right before bed (approximately 8 hours apart) is the best for me.
- age 16, Florida
I usually can have an orgasm right after I've had one. It takes much longer, and is not at all gratifying. So I usually wait a day or so before I have another one.
- age 18, New Jersey
I'm good to go again in as little as 20 minutes, if I'm watching a particularly hot video. On weekends I can do it before I get up, then again in the middle of the morning, then perhaps in the afternoon, then before I go to sleep. But generally once in the morning and once at night is good for me.
- age 42, New York
Once I have an orgasm, I can climax again within minutes, which my boyfriend loves! I can get off to the simple sound of him moaning and his tongue moving in and out of my mouth, as if our mouths were "making love." We've also had phone sex, which is great!
- age 18, Florida (female)
I usually can't go more than once a day, but some times I've managed 2 or 3 more orgasms within 8 hours if I haven't had a chance to masturbate for a few days. At my age I'm happy to do it that much.
- age 53, Ohio
Usually I need 15 or 20 minutes before I feel like masturbating to orgasm again. But when I think of my girlfriend and me, I can sometimes do it immediately.
- age 14, Kansas
I prefer 15 to 20 minutes before attempting another orgasm. I've been able to do it sooner than that, but it doesn't feel as good. I am always able to do it sooner if I know I have the privacy. If there are other people in the house or if I had just masturbated with a friend, then I wouldn't want to do it again for a long time. Likewise if I have had intercourse with a girl.
- age 24, Pennsylvania
I rarely masturbate twice in a row, but when I do, I usually have to wait about 10 minutes before I can start up again. The second orgasm will not be as intense as the first, and I ejaculate less. If I'm really horny, though, I can climax 3 or 4 times in an afternoon.
- age 16, New York
When I masturbate I have to wait anywhere between 7 to 10 minutes because my genitals are so sensitive to touch after I climax. I usually pass the time stroking my breasts and fantasizing. The same is true when I have sex with my fiancé, although, I'm sometimes so aroused I'll put up with a little discomfort if it means another great orgasm.
- age 36, California (female)
I can go for another one right away if I want, but I hardly ever do. It usually takes a little longer, but sometimes it's really hot to just start over again when there's semen all over. Usually once is enough, and I seldom have time enough for 2. But, when I've been messing around with my girlfriend and I come home all horny, I *have* to do it twice just so I can get to sleep.
- age 17, California
I need about an hour, but only twice a day. More than that hurts, doesn't feel good, and nothing comes out!
- age 13, Canada
Usually I wait a minute or two. If I'm really excited, it's less than that. I've never had a multiple...maybe someday. However, one very boring evening in my dorm room I decided to masturbate my brains out for as long as I could. I must have climaxed about 15 times in one hour...my sheets were soaked! Well, maybe the evening wasn't *that* boring.
- age 28, Minnesota (female)
I need at least an hour before I can get hard again, and before my guilty feelings of the last session go away. The second one of the day is always less satisfying; I don't know why. The amount of time between usually does not change.
- age 17, Massachusetts
They say male multiple orgasms are rare. Well, I happen to be one of the lucky ones! If I stroke slowly and work myself up for an hour or so, I can have a very powerful orgasm, feel my body relax for about 5 seconds, and then have another one right after. To do this I must keep stroking throughout the orgasms. The most that I have had is 3, accompanied by less semen ejaculated on the second and virtually none on the third.
- age 22, Louisiana
It depends. Recently I met a really pretty girl whom I have gone out with a few times. I find her really sexually attractive, fantasize about her often, and masturbate 2 or 3 times a day thinking about her. Last night we went to a movie. During the movie she started to rub my penis through my jeans. After the movie we kissed and rubbed each other through our clothes. We both got really turned on. As soon as I got home, I masturbated and ejaculated very quickly. I didn't even stop after I climaxed – my penis stayed erect, and I ejaculated again in about 10 minutes. I still couldn't get to sleep, so I masturbated again in another half-hour. Finally, I fell asleep. When I woke up this morning I had a throbbing erection and masturbated again. It took about 20 minutes, and I shot only a few drops.
- age 15, South Africa
I find that when I have been in good physical shape, the refractory period is much less than when I am not. Generally, however, I am able to climax twice, one right after the other, without resting at all. The more aroused I am, the more times I can go at it! Occasionally I can go for 3, but by then I am usually a little raw and tender. Personally, my erection does not subside after I climax. Without any stimulation, it usually stays erect for some time after I ejaculate, whether or not I have climaxed the 2 or 3 previous times as indicated above. (No Viagra needed here!)
- age 30, New York
I can have another orgasm and even ejaculate just a few seconds after my first one. I've often wondered if this is true of others, because according to this site I shouldn't be able to do this, but it has always been the way I masturbate since before I could even ejaculate. In fact, I think my second orgasm feels even better and reaches a higher point of pleasure than my first one.
- age 14, Oklahoma
Usually I need several hours to pass before I can achieve another orgasm, or even before I want to. Generally speaking an orgasm satisfies me sufficiently that it's at least half a day, if not longer, before I feel the urge to have another one. I don't know that I've ever tried to have 2 orgasms closer together than that, though I suspect I might be able to do so after a long abstinence (at least 3 or 4 days).
- age 42, Tennessee
In the evenings, I normally can't try again, even if I wait an hour. However, in the morning I can often go within 4 or 5 minutes of my last orgasm. In fact, I have had 3 or 4 morning orgasms within an hour. It takes much less time in the morning. At night it takes 45 minutes or so, but in the morning only 3 to 10, depending on how big a hurry I'm in.
- age 19, Argentina
I can start masturbating again after about an hour. I can climax a second time, but only if I try very, very hard. At my "advanced" age of 53, it takes more stimulation for the second orgasm. I am most stimulated if I see a video where other guys are ejaculating.
- age 53, Texas
The shortest time I've ever had between orgasms is 15 or 20 seconds. If it's been a while since the last time, I have no problem having 2 or 3 orgasms only 15 to 30 seconds apart. The length of time between sessions plays a big part.
- age 17, Oklahoma (female)
I've never masturbated back-to-back. I've tried, but I just can't for some reason. Once is enough for me.
- age 16, New York
After I masturbate I can hardly ever go again right after. I usually need to wait at least a couple of hours, especially if it's just an ordinary session. However, if I'm masturbating with my friends or if we are watching a sexy movie I can usually go right after with maybe a minute or 2 in between. If I'm with people, I guess, I can go one right after another – but if I'm reading erotic stories or something else by myself, I usually can't, nor do I want to go again.
- age 14, Minnesota
I masturbate mainly with my vibrator, so I can usually go for more than one, if I want to. The circumstances don't change unless I don't have the time to do more, or if it isn't the right place. But the really cool thing for me is that I don't really need to go for another orgasm often. My first is good enough to keep me going for quite a while. The emphasis needs to be put on the quality, not quantity, of the orgasms. Only then will we all have more pleasure.
- age 17, North Carolina (female)
Almost always before I orgasm I say I am going to continue masturbating to a second orgasm, but after I ejaculate for the first time I usually cannot keep going. It takes at least a couple of hours for me to start again. I usually do it once in the morning and once at night – it just depends on how much time I have.
- age 19, California
This is one way I think I'm a lot different from other guys. When I climax I never feel I'm done, so I keep masturbating. I usually climax again within a couple of minutes. I've asked around, and no one I know is like that. Now, when I can go again, it is usually about an hour unless...unless I am getting into it with other people – then it could be quicker.
- age 15, Texas
If I'm having sex with a female, it can take several hours. If I masturbate while looking at pictures on a Web site it can take only a half-hour. An orgasm "live" feels the most intense, but masturbation is a great substitute. It can feel very good and pleasurable, and it comes in many different styles.
- age 43, New Jersey
It depends. When I'm in the bathroom and have to hurry, I can't usually bring myself to masturbate again. However, if I'm in a more relaxed location, such as my bedroom, it takes me less than a minute to achieve a full erection and continue. I can masturbate in my bedroom late at night 4 to 6 times effortlessly. I think the anxiety of being discovered in the bathroom prohibits me from pleasuring myself anymore when I'm there.
- age 14, North Carolina
If I use my vibrator, I find that trying to have another orgasm is impossible. The vibrator is so intense and causes such a strong response that I'm totally spent. If I'm taking a hot bath and decide to roll to my side and use one of the whirlpool jets, I can have up to 3 orgasms – usually a minute or so after each one. It's funny, because once during this time my husband came in and was talking to me and I couldn't talk. He saw this funny expression on my face, got our camera, and took a picture. I couldn't move to cover up it felt so good!
- age 38, New Jersey (female)
After orgasm my penis usually hurts a little bit, so I have to wait. If it's a small orgasm, I can usually masturbate in 2 to 3 hours. If I have a big orgasm, I can't masturbate until 8 or 9 hours later. Sometimes though, I'm really aroused and masturbate even though it hurts a little. It's only sore until my penis starts to seep "pre-cum."
- age 13, New York
I can go another round as soon as my penis gets erect again. This usually takes only a few minutes if I'm in the mood. Each time it becomes progressively more difficult to finish, though. It feels good to pull my soft penis and it's sure to harden up, but sometimes I know it would just take too long. So, I'm almost always satisfied after one orgasm.
- age 36, Utah
I can go for 2 or 3 orgasms without even losing the erection in between. Often the second or third one is even better than the first, even if less semen comes out.
- age 18, France
If I'm really horny, I can go again after about 10 minutes. Mostly I don't feel like doing it again for a few hours. The quickest was probably a few minutes. A friend and I masturbated together and I climaxed first. A few minutes later, seeing him climax made me climax again.
- age 24, Arizona
It usually takes me 15 to 20 minutes to reload, but if my partner is really into it and she provides oral stimulation afterwards, then I can shorten that time to around 5 minutes. That's after my first orgasm. My second requires more time to re-energize – approximately 30 minutes. After a second orgasm I may not be able to get another erection for a few hours. But then again, that situation has only happened to me a couple of times.
- age 28, Tennessee
I usually masturbate in bed just before I go to sleep, so I don't get a chance to have another go. When I've been able to masturbate at other times, I can't seem to get an erection soon enough, so I just don't bother until later.
- age 16, Scotland
At my age it may take a little longer than it does for some of your readers, but normally I require about 3 hours. The amount of time it takes is dependent upon just how horny I feel. The quicker I have another orgasm, the stronger it will be – and that's what we all want.
- age 55, Illinois
It depends on whom I'm with. If I am by myself, I generally need a breather and then I can go again. If I am with my girlfriend, then she generally needs a breather, but we can keep going. If I am with my friends, I can go right on through. It depends on what stage my friend is at and whether we are trying to climax together, or we are just doing it together, but in our own space.
- age 18, Washington
I believe it depends on the intensity of the orgasm. If it is a mild one, maybe 10-15 minutes, if it is out-of-this-world-mind-blowing-throwing-your-body-into- convulsions; you could be satisfied for the night. What an experience!
- age 32, New York (female)
It usually takes me 10 or 15 minutes before I can get up again to masturbate for a second time. It can be faster if I am watching a video or something. If I am just masturbating with no visual aids, it takes longer.
- age 17, Texas
I normally need as much time as it takes for my heart rate to return to normal (about 5 minutes). I can maintain the same erection with a little stimulation. The second orgasm usually takes longer to obtain but is generally more intense and forceful on the expulsion of semen. If I masturbate slowly the first time, taking an hour or more, I am unable to climax a second time – too exhausted.
- age 36, Idaho
The time between orgasms is an individual response. An erection is controlled by the sympathetic nervous system, while ejaculation is controlled by the parasympathetic system. Thus, if you can "excite" the sympathetic system – in theory the latent period before a second (or 3rd or 4th) can be as short as 1 second. In reality, typically 5 to 10 minutes (for men – women have us all beat here!), depending upon the individual and what that person is using to "excite" themselves (the sympathetic system). By the way, the sympathetic system is what also increases heart rate when you get nervous. (Can you tell I teach physiology?)
