I masturbate both ways, but I prefer lubrication when I can use it. Even though I am uncircumcised, I still enjoy slowly pulling back my foreskin, applying a generous amount of lube, and gently rubbing the head – this is my favorite way. Usually, in the morning before school, I have to do it fast and dry because I don't have the time to go the other way.
- age 16, Missouri
I have to use lubrication – otherwise my penis gets full of friction sores.
- age 21, Canada
At age 12 I began using skin lotions. Later I started using petroleum jelly, which seems to be the best, most effective, and most pleasurable method. However, while I was at college this past year, I tended to just use spit, as it was the most readily available resource.
- age 19, Minnesota
I almost always use spit for lubrication – but I do it dry to get started, or when I'm licking my hand for more spit. I tried to use Vaseline for a while, but it can get very messy. Body oil, too – but they don't absorb or wash off your hands that easily.
- age 16, California
I masturbate dry most of the time. I take a grip on the shaft, and while I'm still holding that grip, I tug at my penis. Even if you are uncircumcised, you will have enough skin to do this. It feels great, and there's no messy lotions or lubes to deal with. I masturbate like this at least five times a day!

Wet ... Pantene Pro-V is just great! Try it – you'll see.
- age 23, Canada
I have always masturbated with lubrication. I go through about a 1-pound jar of Vaseline every 12 months, maybe more. I am circumcised and just have to use lube. I've masturbated without lube only once or maybe twice, but I just like the feeling of Vaseline. I've tried K-Y, but it dries up, and it's "too" slippery. Vaseline has some "resistance," so I just like it better. I have used everything else: honey, pesto sauce, olive oil, shampoo, bar soap, liquid soap, spit, hand lotion -_ but I like nothing better than Vaseline.
- age 19, Kentucky
I have tried baby oil, lotion, water, and soap – but I like the rough feeling of a dry whacking session, because it stimulates my head and shaft more.
- age 15, Connecticut
My favorite lube is olive oil. I would go out and buy some lube like K-Y, but I already have this at home – so I use it. Sometimes I use my spit, too.
- age 14, California
I use lube every now and then for a change, but usually I like to stroke myself dry. The lube decreases the sense of touch, because there's something between my hand and my penis. Lube is nice if you want to go fast, but since I prefer to do it slowly, I just patiently stroke myself and let the "pre-cum" give me just enough wetness to keep from making myself sore.
- age 26, North Carolina
I am uncircumcised, so I don't really ever need lubrication as much as I hear circumcised guys do. But I still sometimes use lube for variety. I have tried quite a few kinds, but my favorite is Vaseline. I can use that and sit and rub the underside of the glans [head] for hours, and the feeling is definitely the best. An interesting one I tried was Vicks Vapo-Rub; it has the consistency of Vaseline but adds a kind of cool burn. It is a very interesting sensation.
- age 17, Kentucky
As a dedicated masturbator, I have naturally used lubricants – but being uncircumcised, I have also done it dry. I do it dry when I have to be quiet, or if I'm in a hurry. I prefer using lubes, holding back the skin – it feels better. But either way, it accomplishes the goal: pleasure.
- age 16, Illinois
I love to use lubrication. (Good ol' Lubriderm – nothing feels better!) But it makes me ejaculate way too quickly – like less than two minutes. I prefer dry, because it takes more time.
- age 20, New Hampshire
I've tried lubrication, but I don't like it. I just love the natural friction.
- age 14, Pennsylvania
Usually I have to masturbate quietly, so I have to do it dry – but I love to use lubrication whenever I can, because it makes me ejaculate a lot more, and I get a whole lot hornier. What I really love to do is get in the shower and rub soap all over my body and masturbate. (I use Dial and that doesn't seem to burn.)
- age 14, Missouri
Sometimes I go dry, and sometimes I use different lubes. If I have just taken a shower and don't want to get messy, I just do it dry while lying in bed. But if it's Saturday morning and I'm sleeping in (which is rare), I want to take my time and have a slow go at it. First I put on a good hand lotion and rub and slide until I have a firm start, and then I use baby lotion, because it doesn't dry out the way some lotion does. When I'm ready to let it fly, I wipe off some of the lotion so I can get a good grip to finish with – and hope I don't fall back to sleep!
- age 32, Tennessee
I always use lubrication, and I mix up my own. I don't like water-based lube because it needs constant replenishment. My homemade lube is 3/4 cocoa-butter lotion and 1/4 canola oil. It lasts, smells good, and feels fantastic. Everyone I know who has tried it loves it.
- age 48, Pennsylvania
I just recently started to masturbate with lube. I use either hand lotion or baby oil, and I find that it adds GREATLY to the masturbation experience. I don't like to masturbate without it anymore. The only problem is it's messy.
- age 17, Minnesota
Yes, I have used WET [a commercial personal lubricant] on numerous occasions. I prefer masturbating dry, because lubricants deaden the sensations. Doing it dry, I have a lot more control and have incredible orgasms.
- age 47, Oregon
I've masturbated with many different lubrications, and I've masturbated dry. Wet is definitely the way to go. When I was first masturbating, I tried every lube I could get a hold of, such as baby oil, Vaseline, hand creams, etc. I am a fan of water-based lubes, but that's all up to your personal taste. I used baby oil almost every time I masturbated for a month or so, but it got to the point where just smelling baby oil would make me ejaculate. Then I went on vacation and forgot to pack my travel-size bottle of baby oil (it was under my bed), and when I got on the trip the first morning, I was quite aroused and decided to masturbate. I remembered reading on JackinWorld that people often use saliva to masturbate with. So I did: I spit on my hands and went to it. I had an unbelievable orgasm. Since then, saliva has been my lube of choice – it lubes well, doesn't leave a smell (you can smell baby oil from a mile away), you don't have to worry about carrying a bottle or anything, so you can use it anywhere, and it's basically unlimited. Try it, guys.

I've masturbated with lube only a few times. I really like it with a wetter lube; yesterday I tried it K-Y for the first time, but I thought it was too thick and smelled funny. I didn't really like it that much. I guess I prefer dry, just because it's easy to clean up.
- age 22, Tennessee
I always use lube. I definitely prefer it wet, because it feels more like actual intercourse.
- age 24, Florida
I like to start off dry; then, when I'm nice and hard, I like a dab of Vaseline (not too much). After a while I apply a few drops of Astro-Glide [another commercial personal lubricant] and I'm in heaven.
- age 47, New York
I enjoy Astro-Glide and soapy showers. However, I also like just moving the skin up and down and letting it last a long time. Sometimes I use baby powder and a light, feathery touch. Gosh, I like 'em all and would hate to have to make a choice!
- age 32, Texas
I use shaving gel, like Edge for tough beards. I was shaving one day and tried it; it lasts forever, and a little water will keep it fresh for hours.
- age 18, Pennsylvania
When I was younger, I usually masturbated dry. The skin on my penis was loose enough (even though I am circumcised), and my need was usually too urgent to bother with lubrication. After I married, I found that lubrication better simulated the feeling of intercourse with my wife, so I came to prefer masturbating wet. At first, baby oil would do the trick. Or, there might be some hand lotion lying around. As I have aged, the skin on my penis has become more sensitive and easily irritated so that now I must use a lubricant. I have found two "recipes" to be ideal:
1. Add some baby oil (experience will suggest how much) to a bottle of skin lotion, such as Vaseline Intensive Care or Jergens Hand & Body Lotion. These lotions already have mineral oil in them, so adding more in the form of baby oil makes them more slippery. Apply a quarter-sized dollop to your gripping hand, and rub it around to coat the palm, thumb, and fingers. This also warms the lube. Now apply it to your penis and begin to stroke – it lasts a long time and feels great.
2. Use a fairly stiff ointment, such as Vaseline petroleum jelly (not mentholated!), or facial cream. Apply it first to your hand and then to your penis, as above. Go slowly; there's a lot more friction. When the stiffer cream has absorbed into the skin somewhat, put some lighter oil onto your hand, such as baby oil, or a light cooking or massage oil. The two will mix into a delightful consistency, and as above, will last for a very long time.

I like to masturbate dry and wet. Wet makes me ejaculate more, for some reason. My favorite type of lubrication, if we have any in our house at the time, is Aloe Vera Gel. It is all-natural, and it is cool (temperature-wise). I love it.
- age 14, Ohio
I use Softsense hand lotion; I prefer using that to masturbating dry because it feels more like a vagina. I also think it brings out the sensitivity when I use the lotion. Also, Softsense – for some odd reason--- is the only lotion that doesn't dry out the skin of my penis the way other types do. Believe me, dried-out and cracked penis skin HURTS!
- age 23, Wisconsin
When I have got lots of time, I like to do it dry. I don't ejaculate as quickly, and can masturbate for a longer period of time. If I want to finish in a hurry, I use a lube. I usually masturbate at night, and I share a room with my brother – and using a lube makes a lot of noise. Not too cool.
- age 17, Nevada
I like to masturbate without lubrication, because I think I lose some of the 'feel' while masturbating. Lubrication just makes my hand slip right off my penis.
- age 14, Minnesota
When I'm really horny and need to get off right then, I go with the lube. But if I want to relax and just masturbate for a while, I usually go dry. (Dry is a little bit less messy if you need to clean up quickly.)
- age 16, Louisiana
I always use lubrication – preferably oil-based. My current favorite is WET brand oil-based formula. Another excellent choice is coconut oil, available at health-food stores. An advantage is that except at the height of summer, it's solid at room temperature and cannot spill. Body heat liquefies it promptly, and I find the texture and slickness is just about right for masturbating with.
- age 40, Louisiana
I regularly use Albolene Cleansing Lotion. It is better than K-Y Jelly, it stays on for a long time, and the sensation is great!
- age 28, Illinois
I am uncircumcised. Until I reached puberty, I had a real problem urinating, because the skin was very tight, and to pee I would have to fight with the foreskin to get the head of my penis out. My penis was always chapped and sore, and my parents thought I would need an operation to correct the problem. The doctor suggested squirting baby oil under the foreskin and working the skin back and forth a couple of times a day to loosen it up and stretch it. Using the baby oil over the course of about a year worked for me by letting the foreskin slide back more naturally, and it was a lot of fun doing this twice daily! I wound up not needing the operation and learning to masturbate, all at the same time. Later, when I found out what masturbation was all about (around age 12), I continued using the baby oil – and I still do today. I have so much extra foreskin that even when I am completely erect the head is still covered; to masturbate, I pull back the foreskin exposing the head, put a couple drops of baby oil on the tip of my penis, pull the skin over the head, and hold it with one hand while I stroke myself with the other hand. The feeling is incredible! It's too bad everybody can¹t do it this way.

I usually masturbate dry about 80% of the time and wet 20%. Masturbating wet is usually kind of a mess to clean up, but it certainly heightens the sensations – almost too much for me. Plus, masturbating wet makes me ejaculate far sooner than I want. Masturbating dry helps me to prolong my session far longer.

Do you find yourself masturbating more often during some seasons than others? Why?

WHICH DO YOU PREFER – MASTURBATING WET OR DRY?
[Notes: The JackinWorld readership is split on this issue, with numbers along the lines with the results from the Survey #2. It's interesting how many people, on both sides, mentioned that the biggest negative of lubrication was it's messy. Overall, though, it seems that the people who are really into masturbation tend to use lubrication, while those who do it only out of necessity do not.]
